About ServSafe

Nebraska Extension offers ServSafe® food safety trainings for food service employees and managers. These trainings provide practical, science-based guidance on safe food handling, including proper cooking and storage temperatures, cleaning and sanitation, and preventing contamination.

ServSafe® Manager is a nationally recognized food safety training and certification program established by the National Restaurant Association. This training provides the latest science-based information on food safety and best practices in the industry. This course is designed for food service managers and supervisory staff in restaurants, hospitals, schools, long-term care facilities and other food-handling establishments.  

ServSafe® Food Handler is a basic food safety class for food service workers. The class consists of five sections: Basic Food Safety, Personal Hygiene, Cross-Contamination and Allergens, Time and Temperature, and Cleaning and Sanitation. At the end of the class, a short test will be given.
