Smoothies and Shakesshake

Apple Yogurt Smoothie

2 cups low-fat vanilla yogurt
1 granny smith apple, cored, peeled and diced
½ cup orange juice
½ cup ice
2 Tablespoons honey

1. Put all ingredients in a blender or food processor.
2. Mix until smooth.
3. Pour into 2 glasses.

 
 


Banana Split Shakeblender for smoothies

2 small ripe bananas
1 cup skim milk
1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
2 cups low-fat chocolate frozen yogurt

1. Place bananas, milk and strawberries in a blender. Cover; blend on HIGH speed until smooth.
2. Add yogurt 1 cup at a time. Cover and pulse on HIGH speed after each addition until smooth and thick.

4. If desired, garnish with sliced almonds, julienne mint and ½ teaspoon honey.

 
 

 
 


Blues Buster Smoothie

1 (6 ounce) container low-fat blueberry yogurt
1/2 cup apple juice
1/3 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1/3 cup frozen sliced peaches
5-6 ice cubes

1. Place yogurt, apple juice, blueberries and peaches in
blender.
2. Add ice cubes.
3. Blend ingredients until smooth.
4. Serve immediately.

Chocolate Cherry Smoothie

1/2 cup fat-free milk
6 ounces fat-free vanilla yogurt
1/4 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
1 cup frozen dark cherries
Chocolate syrup

1. Put milk, yogurt, chocolate chips and frozen cherries in a blender or food processor.
2. Mix until smooth.
3. Pour into 2 glasses.
4. Drizzle chocolate syrup on top as a garnish.


Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie

1 cup skim milk
2 Tablespoons chocolate syrup
1 Tablespoon peanut butter
½ cup vanilla yogurt

1. Place all ingredients in blender and blend on high until
smooth.

2. Serve and enjoy.


Fast and Fruity Shake

Makes 2 servings

1 ripe banana, peeled
¾ cup pineapple or orange juice
½ cup lowfat vanilla yogurt or frozen vanilla yogurt
½ cup strawberries, fresh or frozen

1. Break banana into small pieces and put in the blender with juice, yogurt and strawberries. Blend until smooth.
2. Divide shake between two glasses and serve immediately.

 
 


Frozen Monkey Shakes

Makes 2 Servings

2 bananas, peeled
1 cup low-fat milk
5 Tbsp frozen orange juice concentrate
3 Tbsp malted milk powder (optional)

1. Wrap bananas in plastic wrap; freeze.

2. Break bananas into pieces; place in blender with milk, orange juice concentrate and malted milk powder.

3. Blend until smooth.


Fruit Smoothiestrawberry yogurt shake

Makes 4 servings

2 containers (6 ounce) low-fat vanilla yogurt
1 package (10 ounces) frozen strawberries or raspberries
1 medium banana, sliced

1. Put all ingredients in a blender or food processor.
2. Mix until smooth.

Note: You may need to blend this in two batches. For a change of pace, use any of your favorite frozen fruits. Fresh fruit such as mango, peaches and cantaloupe also can be used.


Juice in Motion

4-5 *-tempered- ice cubes or ½ glass crushed ice
½ cup 100% pineapple juice
½ cup milk
½ cup 100% orange juice
½ teaspoon vanilla (optional)

1. Put ice in a heavy re-sealable plastic bag. Close the bag tightly and hit with rolling pin until ice is crushed.
2. Measures juices, milk and vanilla and put in a jar. Tighten the lid and shake the jar until all ingredients are mixed.
OR-Use 1 cup purple grape juice instead of the pineapple and orange juices.

*Tempered ice is ice that has set at room temperature 5-10 minutes.

NOTE: Tempered ice and all ingredients can be mixed in the blender.


Mango Yogurt Smoothie

Makes 1 serving

4-7 ice cubes
1 cup (8 ounces) plain fat-free yogurt
3/4 cup mango slices in extra light syrup*
Mango slices for garnish (optional)

1. Place ice, yogurt and mango in blender.
2. Blend ingredients until smooth.
3. Pour into glasses and garnish with mango slices if desired.
4. Serve immediately.

*Mango slices can be found in jars in the produce department.

3. Pour juice mixture over ice in glass and serve immediately.

Orange Fizz Float

Vanilla ice cream
Orange juice
Lemon-lime carbonated beverage


1. Drop a scoop of ice cream into an 8-ounce glass.
2. Fill the glass three-fourths full with orange juice.
3. Pour in enough lemon-lime beverage to fill the glass. Give it a stir with a spoon.

1/3 cup nonfat dry milk
5 or 6 crushed ice cubes

1. Combine all ingredients in a container with a tight lid. Shake until blended.
